Placement Tests
The purpose of the Placement Test is to determine which course level best fits your current skills and needs. Placement Tests are set up by appointment only and there is a $30.00 charge. The results of the test will determine the level at which you should begin your ASL studies.
For students who have not previously taken ASL classes or who have had no prior ASL experience, it is highly recommended you take the beginner level course called ASL 101 (Signing Naturally ASL Level One).
If you do have prior experience with ASL and you want to improve your ASL skills, but you're not sure which level you should start at, then the proficiency test is for you.
The Placement Test is generally available Monday to Friday, anytime between from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The Placement Test runs for about 30 minutes. This process of evaluating your ASL proficiency can take several days so we strongly recommend you make the request at least one week before registration begins.
Please contact the Sign Language Services, sls@toronto.chs.ca and suggest a date and time when you would be available to meet the Sign Language Coordinator.
