Sign Language Services Policy

Registration Policy

The Canadian Hearing Society’s Sign Language Services accepts registrations with payment up until the day of the course if space is available. However, classes often fill up quickly after our brochure is mailed, so it is best to register as soon as possible. If the class you want is full, the registration office will place your name on a waiting list and will contact you if someone cancels. Class registration is on a first come, first served basis.

Your registration is confirmed only when you have received a written confirmation via email, if you have provided us with an email address. If you have not provided us with an email address, we will confirm your registration by contacting you by phone. Should there be any changes to the scheduled class start date, location, and/or time, we will notify you by email or telephone at the number you have provided on the registration form.

Cancellation Policy

Sign Language Services reserves the right to cancel any of the ASL classes if enrollment falls below a level to make the course economically feasible. This means that a class may be facilitated only when there is a minimum of 8 students registered in the class. Instructors assigned to a specific course are subject to change. We will provide notification via email (if there is no email address we will contact you by phone) of cancellation at least 5 business days in advance of the scheduled class.

Sign Language Services is not responsible for expenses incurred by the registrant (air fare, hotel, etc.) if a course is cancelled. Please be sure to check your class location prior to arrival and we also recommend that you contact us one day ahead of time to make sure that your class has not been canceled or rescheduled.

ASL Instructor illness

If it becomes necessary to postpone a class due to ASL instructor illness we will make every effort to reschedule so that all participants can attend.

Absences Policy

Your absences will, most likely, have a negative effect upon your final grade and upon your ability to complete this course. If there is some serious reason for your most recent absences, you should contact us immediately.

Please note that normally, once a student has missed 3 classes, the ASL instructor will inform us and remind us that the student must drop the course through Sign Language Services. You will obtain a “withdrawal” on your student report record.

Refund/Withdrawal Policy

If it becomes necessary for you to cancel a class registration you will receive a full refund as long as you notify us at least 5 business days in advance before the beginning of the class. No refunds will be given to any students after the end of the registration date. A written request to withdraw must be received at Sign language Services, by fax at 905-928-2523 or via email to sls@toronto.chs.ca, before the third class. A $25.00 processing fee will be charged against refunds to cover administrative costs. In addition the total number of classes that have passed prior to our receipt of the withdrawal with also be deducted.

Sign Language Services does not issue refunds for missed classes.

Please allow us a minimum of ten (10) working days to completely process your refund. All refunds are processed back to the original form of payment.

Material Policy

All material purchases, whether made by mail, fax or email are considered binding and final and Sign Language Services will not issue refunds on material purchases. If you have a defective DVD please contact Dawn Signs Press direct in California to contact and they will take care of the replacement of your defective DVD as soon as possible.
