Chances are you, or someone you know, will be faced with deafness or hearing loss now or in the near future. Almost one in four Canadians reports some hearing loss, although closer to 10% of people actually identify themselves as culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened, or hard of hearing.
Other important facts and figures:
- According to Statistics Canada, the average age in Canada is 39 years; by 2030 it will be 45 years
- In 2030, Canadians 65 years and older will represent 25% of the total population, nearly double their current 13%
Couple these projections with the fact that aging is the #1 cause of hearing loss, and the conclusion is clear: the incidence of hearing loss is set to climb dramatically. The demand for CHS services is poised to grow in equal measure.
That’s why we need your support: to ensure that the many programs we offer are here to serve you when you need them.
Building bridges between the hearing world and deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people since 1940, CHS now offers 17 different programs through 27 offices.
Your donation today will ensure that those we serve will be able to make informed choices and live more connected lives.
There are so many ways you can support deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people.

Privacy and List Sharing
To expand our donor base and to increase awareness of deaf, deafened and hard of hearing issues, The Canadian Hearing Society (CHS) sometimes enters into reciprocal mailing list exchange agreements with other like-minded charitable organizations. These are organizations that you may be interested in, yet might otherwise not receive information from them.
At no time does CHS provide your personal information directly to another charity. CHS only approves of your name and address being printed on their correspondence by third parties who meet the Federal Government guidelines for privacy -- Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Another organization would only have your information on file should you contact them directly through a donation or inquiry.
You are CHS's best ambassador. It is through this exchange system that we are able to improve our financial base and serve and counsel the growing numbers of people with hearing loss.
If you would prefer to not have your name included in this program, please let us know.
